Under normal circumstances, most people will not engage in a criminal act, even if they are motivated, and the opportunity presents itself. However, most people will act in a crime if an authority figure tells them. WebbEven after leaving, prisoners viewed the experiment as an actual prison whereas the guards viewed it differently based upon their position of power. One guard even went to the extent to say that he was actually holding his own experiment, trying to determine how much emotional abuse could be inflicted until a prisoner refused or spoke up.
