The problem is how extensive it is - and if its spread to the paper label and worse, the jacket. However I've been able to clean light or beginning mold off record covers and even areas or patches of mold on a record with no problems. Very often and this is particularly true of U.S. vinyl from the 70s/80s you will see patterns or what appear to be residues from the pressing process on the vinyl. I use 99% isopropyl alcohol liberally on tissues, wiping once then folding to a clean fresh side, or, discarding for each new 'wipe.'
